These switches facilitate the switching in/out of
external
Encode
and
Decode
units for
monitoring purposes [Fig 3.6].
ENC Switch
This switch routes the
Lt
and
Rt
inputs to the
main
L
and
R
outputs to allow the main
program to be swapped easily with an
Encoded
program.
DEC Switch
This switch enables the
Decoder Returns
to be
monitored via the speakers.
In practice, the
Encoder Sends
would be sent
to the
Encoding
machine whose output would be fed into a
Decoding
machine.
The
Decoder
machine’s outputs are fed to the
Decoder Returns
so that the overall
Encode/Decode
process can be monitored and compared with the original surround mix.
Alternate Speakers
The
ALT TRIM
switch selects an alternative speaker gain structure which is set up using internal
trimmers [Fig 3.6].
When
ALT TRIM
is
NOT
selected, the standard unity gain structure is applied. This is the factory
default calibration.
Holding down the
CAL
switch for longer than 0.25 seconds causes the speaker outputs to be set
to unity gain. This means that a +4dBu input signal routed via a unity gain path appears at the
speaker outputs at +4dBu.
Note:
The time delay before the
CAL
function activates is to prevent accidental operation
during normal use.
