How to do an Automated Mix
10
To see graphical representations of faders
[15]
, press
Faders
or
Console
,
Faders Up
and use
Arrow
keys,
Page Up/Down
,
Home/End
and
Zoom
buttons to view.
When using VCAs, the physical fader buttons’ positions can be seen alongside the blue
bars representing VCA level.
11
To program
Mutes
only, leaving the faders isolated to begin with, press
F1 Macro
(Write Mutes Only) if available. This isolates all faders, puts Mutes into Update (where
you can simultaneously Write and Read cuts).
The
AutoRead
dropdown menu
[16]
selects what will happen to channels in Write
when you stop, so it is set to
No AutoRead
to retain Update mode - see
Appendix I
.
The
On Stop
mode
[17]
determines what happens with automation data when you
stop the tape, so it will be set to
Write to Next
which means, for example, that if a
channel is Muted it will stay Muted after the point at which you stopped, until the next
previously recorded Un-Mute.
Note:
For an explanation of this menu - see
Appendix J
.
After you are happy with these mutes, you will probably want to set your balance, EQs,
effects sends etc. When you are ready to make fader moves to your static balance, press
F2
(Write Balance Play Cuts) if available. This does exactly what it says - notice that
the
On Stop
mode is changed to
Write To End
.
All channels are in
Write
, but
Mute Write
is disabled so that your Mutes are kept. Make
sure you wind to earlier than the beginning of the
Title
, before rolling the tape. To
Update
or
Re-Write
, be sure to select only
Mutes
or
Faders
if you want to keep data.
12
To closely resemble
SSL (VCA) Trim
, stay in
Update
, (with
No AutoRead
selected), and
to return to the previous mix level after a level ride, press the
Read
button on that
channel.
The speed at which the original level is reached is set by the
Blend
parameter (top left
onscreen), which is the time in frames for the fader to travel from top to bottom.
The shortest value is
1
, the longest is
99
. Just click and type a new value then hit Enter.
Autotakeover
is only available with
Motors Off
and only in
Read
and
Write
.
